As a Senate page I got to see transfers of power.
The Senate Secretary to the Majority, Bobby Backer, [a former page] was indicted and removed from corruption charges.
Served during Camelot and the tragic death of President Kennedy. Like most
young people I was personally enchanted with JFK. I dated the Vice President’s younger daughter, Luci Johnson. And saw the transfer of Executive Power from a unique perspective.
Like many pages I
got Potomac fever and returned to Washington to serve as a law clerk to a federal judge and then later worked for a Texas Congressman on the impeachment of President Nixon. Later I served as counsel on
the White House Staff of President Jimmy Carter.
